The New York Giants’ regular-season opener is just 22 days away. The New York Knicks begin their title defense in 61 days, when they will see their championship banner raised.
While it’s obviously not easy to make exact player comparisons between guys in different sports, it’s still a fun exercise. Here are five player comparisons between players on the Knicks and Giants.
OG Anunoby & Brian Burns
The two defensive stalwarts. The two players opposing offenses have to be most concerned with.
Anunoby was named to an All-Defensive second team last season. Burns can overpower offensive linemen who outweigh him, catch speedy running backs, and finished second in the league last season with 16.5 sacks.
Andre Drummond & Odell Beckham Jr.
Both players are 33 years old. Both were once seen as among the top players in their respective sports. Beckham made three Pro Bowls, while Drummond made two All-Star teams and led the league in rebounding four times.
Neither is seen as being anywhere near the height of their careers, but both are looking to prove they can still provide value. Beckham will partially replace the departed Wan’Dale Robinson if he can make the final roster, while Drummond is taking over the backup center role that Mitchell Robinson previously occupied.
Jalen Brunson & Jaxson Dart
This isn’t to say that Dart is at Brunson’s level in his sport. However, both are the most notable players on their teams.
Much like Brunson gave fans hope that he could lead the team to a championship—and he did—Giants fans believe they finally have their long-term starting quarterback in the post-Eli Manning era.
Pacôme Dadiet & Deonte Banks
Both Dadiet (2024) and Banks (2023) are relatively recent first-round picks who haven’t panned out. Banks has been given more of an opportunity in his sport, but he was sent to the bench last season.
With the Knicks retaining much of their championship team, it’s hard to see Dadiet having much of a role in 2026–27 either. They both need to show more, and rather quickly, or else they could be on new teams or fighting to stay in the league.
Josh Hart & Jameis Winston
Obviously, Hart is more impactful in his sport at the moment. The Giants hope not to see Winston on the field this season, because it would mean Dart got injured.
Both players are quite good-natured, though, and seem to have some type of career in media once their playing days are over. For better or worse, Hart and Winston always give 100 percent effort while playing.
