It has been known for quite some time now that the Minnesota Timberwolves were interested in hiring Tom Thibodeau. Thibodeau was fired by the Chicago Bulls, shortly after losing to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Semifinals last season.

On April 20, 2016, the Timberwolves announced that Thibodeau agreed to a five-year contract to become Minnesota’s Head Coach and President of Basketball Operations.

Minnesota’s owner Glen Taylor is enthusiastic about Thibodeau agreement with the Timberwolves, as per the official press release.

"“We are extremely excited to welcome Tom Thibodeau back to the Timberwolves,” said Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor. “Through this process we quickly identified Tom as the best leader to shape our talented team and help them realize their full potential. Tom’s resume speaks for itself. He is a proven winner, leader and one of the most well-respected NBA head coaches over the last decade. His teams have annually been among the league leaders in defense and we are excited about the approach and mentality he will bring to that side of the ball. The future of the Minnesota Timberwolves has never been brighter and we are very pleased to have Tom as our basketball operations leader moving forward.”“A veteran of over 25 seasons as an NBA head coach and assistant coach, Thibodeau’s teams have advanced to the postseason in 19 seasons, including three trips to the NBA Finals (1999, 2008, 2010). Most recently Thibodeau was head coach of the Chicago Bulls, leading the Bulls to a 255-139 record over five seasons from 2010-15. Under his tutelage, the Bulls reached the playoffs in all five seasons, including holding the best record in the NBA in both of his first two seasons (2010-12). Thibodeau is one of two coaches in NBA history to win the most games in the league in each of his first two seasons. His .647 winning percentage as head coach ranks seventh in NBA history (min. 200 games)”"

This is exciting news for a team that only won 29 games this season. Thibodeau throughout his five seasons in the Bulls has led the league in every defensive statistical category.

There is no doubt that Thibodeau will bring the same defensive toughness to the young and energetic Timberwolves. With young budding talents Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins, Ricky Rubio, Gorgui Dieng, and Zach LaVine, many say that Minnesota underachieved this season. That the Timberwolves should at least been fighting for the eighth and final Playoff spot in the Western Conference, but instead finished with the fifth-worst record in the league…

Minnesota allowed 106 points per game this season, and allowed opponents to shoot 47.1% from the field, which ranked as the third-worst in the NBA. The arrival of Thibodeau should correct that. Thibodaeu will easily make the Timberwolves average on defense AT THE VERY LEAST! With potentially a high upside.

This is a joke, but who knows… with Thibodeau at the helm grooming the 20-year old rookie, IT COULD HAPPEN! Towns led all rookies in total blocks this season, rejecting 138 shots.

Now this is a joyous day for Timberwolves fans, but a dreadful day for New York Knicks fans…

Eariler in the year, there were reports that Thibodeau loved New York and always wanted to be the head coach of the Knicks, as per Ian O’Connor of ESPN.

Thibodeau and Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony even mutually endorsed each other.

Last week it was reported by Frank Isola of The New York Daily News, that Anthony wanted to have input in New York’s off-season moves, with Thibodeau as his coach.

"A source close to Anthony insists that his preferred choice is Tom Thibodeau"

Sadly… it has been reported that Phil Jackson didn’t even bother to interview Thibodeau

With Jackson’s insistence of hiring someone he personally knows and the blatant disregard to Anthony’s request, there is definitely a disconnect within the organization…

And with the recent Luke Walton debacle this weekend, with reports of interviewing him and then not interviewing him once tampering charges were brought up… the spotlight is on Jackson to make his head coaching hire.
