Predicting the Knicks’ NBA 2K23 ratings ahead of release
By Jake Brown
Isaiah Hartenstein’s 2K Rating: 76 Overall
Having just signed with the Knicks in free agency, Isaiah Hartenstein will provide meaningful minutes for the Orange and Blue. Despite not having a high rating, Hartenstein is a great all-around center to have.
Hartenstein deserves to be a 76 at the very least just from his per 36 minutes statistics alone, as he averaged 16.7 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 4.7 assists.
The German was a 75 overall last season but due to his stellar all-around play on the Clippers, Hartenstein deserves a 76 overall due to his strong defense and above-average passing for a center. His contributions will be very important to the nucleus of the bench this upcoming season.
I also wouldn’t be surprised if his 75 overall rating from last year didn’t change. Only time will be able to tell for this one.
Quentin Grimes’ 2K Rating: 75 Overall
Unfortunately for Quentin Grimes, the NBA 2K23 Summer League will not boost his rating, despite his appearance on the All-Summer League First Team. But after a solid rookie year, Grimes’ 71 overall 2K rating from last year is definitely due for an upgrade.
Despite only averaging 6.1 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.0 assists last season, Grimes is certain to have a breakout season. With the signing of Jalen Brunson, the Knicks’ front office has reportedly had concerns over a Brunson-Fournier backcourt. With Grimes potentially in the starting lineup, he is bound to help the Knicks in a 3-and-D type of role this upcoming season.
I believe that a 75 is a great place to start him for his sophomore year, with the potential to rise even higher if he is given success in a starting position for the Knicks.
Cam Reddish’s 2K Rating: 75 Overall
Since being acquired by the Knicks in late January, Cam Reddish has minimally seen the floor in the 15 games he’s played so far under Coach Thibodeau. Towards the end of the season, Reddish was shut down due to a right shoulder injury.
I still like the upside for Reddish given that he is only 22 years old, but going forward he must prove to the front office along with the fans that he can contribute nightly when given the chance.
Reddish was rated as a 77 last season for Atlanta and New York. Reddish averaged 11.9 points for the Hawks last season and showed lots of promise until he was traded to the Knicks and had a difficult time finding his way into the rotation.
With Alec Burks being shipped off to the Pistons this offseason, Reddish will have a great opportunity to show everyone what he is worth.
A 75 overall rating may seem unfair, but when given the chance, Reddish will rise to the opportunity. I can’t see Reddish being a 75 overall by the end of the 2022-23 season (if he’s even rated that low to begin with).
Jericho Sims’ 2K Rating: 72 Overall
Recently promoted to the Knicks’ roster full-time, Jericho Sims is an underrated player for this team.
Originally drafted 58th overall in 2021, Sim’s solid play at the center position during the NBA Summer League combined with his off-the-charts athleticism makes people wonder why he wasn’t drafted higher.
Sims was a 71 overall in last year’s installment of NBA 2K. I’ve bumped him up one overall due to his potential and crazy jumping, but I wouldn’t be surprised if his overall stays put as is.
Now being the third-string center for the Knicks, I’m certain there will be injuries at any given position on the floor. This will give Sims the chance to show what he’s got in order to see a boost in his 2K rating.
Miles McBride’s 2K Rating: 71 Overall
The former West Virginia product didn’t see much playing time in his first year and with a logjam at the point guard position, it’s unlikely that McBride will see much of the floor in his second year in the league.
Known as an elite defender, McBride is a good disruptor, getting into the passing lanes on defense.
He wasn’t able to show much of his offensive game during the Summer League, having guys like Feron Hunt, Jericho Sims, and Quentin Grimes taking away looks.
I placed him at his rating from last year simply because he hasn’t had too much time out on the court for the Knicks. If he were to show some more improvement on the offensive side of the ball, I could see his rating go up slightly over the course of the year.
It’s currently unknown when 2K is going to release the official ratings for NBA 2K23, but it’s likely that they’ll be released this month, with the game set to be released in early September.
NBA 2K23 will hit stores on Friday, Sept. 9, starting at $59.99 for current-gen consoles and $69.99 for next-gen consoles.
