NY Knicks: What NBA 2K22 Got Right and What They Got Wrong
By James Ryder
The NY Knicks finally took a positive step towards building up the franchise by becoming a playoff team for the first time since 2013.
There are likely more milestones for this core in the future.
And yet, despite the many ways in which the team succeeded during the 2020-21 season, there are still plenty of people provoking the “LOL Knicks” narrative.
Slandering the organization has been one of the favorite pastimes of the NBA media and the league’s fans.
Oftentimes, making fun of and talking trash about the Knicks’ success, or lack thereof, and their personnel has been more than justified.
However, it seems like the team’s recent progress hasn’t been enough for some people to give them respect.
This current offseason has seen the New York faithful going to war online against the team’s naysayers.
The RJ Barrett smear campaign (subscription needed) seems to grow momentum by the day no matter how much Knicks fans retaliate.
What NBA 2K22 got right and wrong about the NY Knicks
There is a lot of doubt concerning Julius Randle‘s future.
Many fans don’t expect him to repeat what he did this season despite an improved supporting cast.
There is validity to questioning Randle’s ability to keep up a north of 40% clip from behind the arc.
There’s also justification for being unsure if he can be a good playoff performer. But, some criticism has still gone too far considering this is a guy coming off an All-NBA selection.
And then, there is the Knicks’ free agency. People (stupidly) believe New York overpaid for Evan Fournier.
What’s even dumber is the perception that the contracts (all of which are either two or three-year deals with team options for a third or fourth year) the Knicks have locked themselves into long-term deals that hinder their chances at future improvement.
Clearly, the Knicks’ public image hasn’t changed all that much for an unconvinced few.
However, maybe some people can have their view of the team shift with a little help from the NBA 2K franchise.
At midnight on Friday, the 2K company released the latest version of their annual basketball video game, NBA 2K22.
Although the game has had its issues over the years, it remains immensely popular with an especially large influence online.
So I thought it would be fun to take a critical look at how NBA 2K perceives the New York Knicks.
This article will determine the game’s accuracy as far as its player ratings and other details concerning the Knicks roster.
