In a bit of exciting news for a change, The Knicks have signed G/F Damyean Dotson to a 10-day hardship exception as reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic.

As many of us know, Dotson spent the first 3 years of his career here in New York after being treated with the 44th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.

A fan favorite due to his hard-working nature and grittiness on the court, this signing couldn’t have come at a better time.

The Knicks have been hindered by both injuries and Covid-related illnesses in the last couple of weeks, so bringing back a friendly face not only helps with fanbase morale but fills a need for the team, albeit likely temporarily.

Knicks bring back Damyean Dotson

It’s funny that Dotson, of all available players, was recently brought back considering Daily Knicks recently wrote a piece discussing 3 former players the organization could consider beginning back on the hardship exception, one of those being Dotson.

Dotson is a 6’5 wing player who is most known for his shooting and playmaking ability.

When given opportunities to play meaningful minutes off the bench for the Knicks, Dotson usually delivered. In the 2018-19 season, he averaged nearly 11 points per game on 37% shooting from deep.

He was eventually let go once the new regime of Leon Rose and Co took over and then signed on with Cleveland.

Cleveland kept him for just one season before letting him walk, where he then signed on with the Spurs this past offseason.

He was relegated to their G-League affiliate, the Austin Spurs where he has played for the entirety of this season so far.

With the Knicks missing 7 players, 6 of which being guards, it was a smart move to bring back Dotson.

I’m sure he would enjoy coming back to the team he was drafted by, even if it’s just for a little while.

And he fills a huge need for the team as both a perimeter playmaker, ball-handler, and shooter.

Perhaps he can build a nice relationship with Knicks rookie Quentin Grimes who also attended the Univerity of Houston.

All things considered, I’m happy with the move and I’m sure the fanbase is as well.

This Jalen Brunson trade could save the Knicks' season. dark. Next
