Should the NY Knicks trade for Jerami Grant?

The name Jerami Grant really isn’t a popular one amongst Knicks fans…mainly just me.

A lot of people question his fit on the team as most people think he’s best suited as a Power Forward but I think he’s more of a Swiss Army Knife and would fit right in with the Knicks.

Grant is a guy who prides himself on his defense which would surely go over well with head coach Tom Thibodeau.

I think he has the ability to guard pretty much anyone 1 through 5 and can hold his own offensively at any spot 3 through 5 as well.

Grant bet on himself when he left Denver and instead of taking a smaller contract and role with the Nuggets, he left for Detroit for a huge payday and became a centerpiece for the organization.

Considering how aggressive Detroit was in the 2020 offseason, you’d have thought they’d have been more competitive this past season.

But they ended up being a bottom-dweller in the Eastern Conference and never really amounted to anything.

This resulted in them being awarded the 1st overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft in which they selected budding Superstar, Cade Cunningham.

It would make a lot of sense for the front office to build their timeline around Cade instead of the 27-year-old Jerami Grant.

I don’t think a trade for Grant would cost the Knicks as much as a deal for one of the premier Superstars in the league would, therefore the swap wouldn’t be a “win now” kind of move.

The Knicks could consolidate some of their young assets with a couple of picks and bring on Grant while still having enough left over to make a deal in the near future for a Dame or Brad Beal or something to that effect.
