Should the NY Knicks trade for Myles Turner?

I know we’ve mentioned this name before plenty of times but I just love the idea of bringing on a stretch 5 to pair with the likes of Julius Randle and RJ Barrett.

Myles Turner provides basically everything Mitchell Robinson and Nerlens Noel have to offer on the defensive end while giving your team a much higher upside offensively.

Most notably, the ability to stretch the floor.

The past two seasons have been down years for Turner, shooting just under 35% and 34% respectively. Not bad but not great.

But that may have had a lot more to do with the Pacers trying to find their identity after Victor Oladipo’s leg injury than anything.

In the two previous seasons when Indiana was one of the better teams in the East, Turner shot 36 and 39% from beyond the arc.

Granted, it was on about an attempt and a half less per game, but still, he’s shown he can’t be left open from long-range regardless.

I could only dream about the idea of the Knicks having 5 guys on the floor who can space the floor all at once while not having to give up any rim protection or low-post defense.

If you ask me, Myles Turner is like a poor-man’s Joel Embiid and would do wonders for today’s roster.

Now, when it comes to the logistics of a trade, the Pacers would have to want to finally let go of him first and foremost.

Then, it’s just a question of making the numbers work.

There may have to be a third team involved as the trade would likely include Knox, Mitch, and Obi Toppin and I doubt Indiana would want to bring on both Obi and Mitch.

But this conversation is for another article.
