4. Orlando Magic

The New York Knicks and Orlando Magic are in a position to make a mutually beneficial trade. The Knicks would add a quality backup point guard on an affordable contract, while the Magic would find a slasher who can create consistent penetration.

This isn’t the most appealing of deals for the Knicks, but in an era of unrealistically massive contracts, landing a quality backup on an affordable contract could be ideal.

By adding D.J. Augustin, the Knicks would alleviate the massive financial burden that’s looming in free agency. He’s signed through 2020 at an affordable rate of $7.25 million per season—less than what either Derrick Rose or Brandon Jennings are expected to sign for.

This deal would also enable the Knicks to test Jeff Green’s ability in an offensive system that fits his skill set—something that can’t be said for many systems he previously played in.

For the Magic, Rose would help an Orlando team that ranks No. 22 in the NBA in points via drives per game. He’d also join the Magic without forcing Rob Hennigan to part ways with current point guard Elfrid Payton.

Augustin won’t provide much on the defensive end of the floor, but he has the offensive skill set to ideally fit Jeff Hornacek’s system.

Adding the first-round draft pick that Orlando acquired in the Serge Ibaka trade could be ideal, as well.
