Josh Hart is widely regarded as the biggest jokester and ball buster on this New York Knicks team. However, on Sunday, he received a taste of his own medicine from teammate Jose Alvarado.

After taking to X to reminisce about his nearly disastrous missed lay-up late in the club's historic Game 4 comeback against San Antonio, writing "I really smoked that lay," Hart and Alvarado were seen taking playful shots at one another by partaking in the always entertaining "what could have been" game.

Following a few back and forths, Hart suggested that, had New York not gone on to win the title, the point guard might not have inked a new three-year, $14.38 million deal with the club, hilariously writing, "We changed your broke life."

In response, Alvarado brilliantly clapped back at the veteran by reminding him of how much was at stake at the time of Hart's botched lay-in attempt, writing, "we change yours because boy if we didn’t win that game lmao. Life would of been different."

No Knicks player nor fan will ever forget the agonizing stomach drop they felt when that wide-open fastbreak ended with the ball bouncing off the back iron and into the hands of De'Aaron Fox.

Alvarado's out here making sure this feeling remains fresh for Hart.

Josh Hart fully aware of what he almost cost Knicks

With or without Jose Alvarado's playful jab, it seems Josh Hart won't be forgetting what happened in the final minutes of Game 4 of the 2026 NBA Finals anytime soon.

During a live recording of the Roommates Show back in late July, the 31-year-old spoke candidly regarding how he felt about the whole situation, even going as far as to admit that "If we didn't win and I missed that layup in Game 4 I swear y'all still would not have seen me to this day," and noted that the next time anyone would have seen him would have been opening night of the 2026-27 season.

Outside of the fact that New York ultimately managed to prevail in the end, the beauty of his near-disaster sequence of events is that the Knicks are choosing to look at it as a positive for what it brought rather than focusing on the negatives that it could have sparked.

To superstar and Finals MVP Jalen Brunson, the miss was what truly embodied this club's entire title run, branding it as a prime example of his and his teammates' resiliency and ability to overcome any and all hurdles thrown their way
