The Atlantic Division added a new head coach this week when Nick Nurse took the Sixers job that was left vacant after Philadelphia fired Doc Rivers. Nurse, who won a championship with the Raptors in 2019, was fired by Toronto at the end of the 2022-23 season.

Nurse now has the opportunity to coach the 2023 NBA MVP Joel Embiid, who has been with the Sixers since he was drafted in 2014 with the No. 3 overall pick. With Philadelphia coming up short of the Eastern Conference Finals again and James Harden’s unclear future, there’s been talk about whether or not Embiid may request a trade. As much as the Knicks would love for that to happen, Embiid hasn’t given any indication that he wants to leave the Sixers.

That may change once Nurse runs him into the floor. Twitter has had a field day ever since the news dropped that Nurse would be Philly’s next head coach. Similar to Tom Thibodeau, Nurse is known for leaving his starters in for the majority of the game and not prioritizing the development of young players. Nurse actually played his starters more than any other coach did in the league, which has hilariously left many fans wondering how Embiid will fare.
