The New York Knicks have been quieter than expected after trading Cam Reddish to the Trail Blazers for Josh Hart. The front office made no moves other than that leading up to the deadline and haven’t signed a player off the buyout market.
Derrick Rose is a player that fans were anticipating being traded, but that didn’t happen. He was linked to a couple of contenders leading up to the deadline. Rose and the Knicks could agree to a contract buyout that would allow for the veteran guard to sign elsewhere, but based on what he had to say recently, it doesn’t seem like that’s going to happen, either.
Although Rose isn’t part of Tom Thibodeau’s rotation, he’s still an integral part of the team. Unlike last season, he’s been healthy for the majority of the season. Because of that, opposing teams are still showing interest in the 34-year-old.
According to TNT’s Chris Haynes, the Suns are looking for another ball handler and view Rose as a “primary candidate” so they are “monitoring” his situation with the Knicks. However, hours after Haynes reported that on Friday, Phoenix signed two-way forward Ish Wainwright to a two-year, $2.5 million deal. Wainwright filled out the Suns’ 15-man roster.
Suns reportedly “monitoring” Derrick Rose’s situation with Knicks, signed Ish Wainwright to two-year deal
After trading for Kevin Durant in the middle of the night, the Suns could very well be the team that represents the Western Conference in the NBA Finals. Phoenix has had its struggles this season, but acquiring KD has changed everything.
Ahead of the trade deadline, it was reported that the Knicks wanted to “do right” by Derrick Rose if they were to trade him. Now that the window has passed for New York to do that, agreeing to a buyout with Rose could allow for him to sign with Phoenix, but first, the Suns would have to first waive a player to open up a roster spot.
As Haynes wrote, “A buyout still feels unlikely, but sources close to the situation don’t believe the door is completely shut on the possibility.” Rose would get minutes with the Suns as well as be in a position to win his first NBA title. That would be a win-win situation for him, but he seems to be content with the Knicks.
