NBA G League roundup: Westchester Knicks look to build on win streak
For the New York Knicks fans that are wondering how the No. 42 pick in the 2022 draft is doing, be sure to tune into a few Westchester Knicks games between now and the end of the season. Trevor Keels is progressing well with Westchester in his rookie year.
New York’s G League affiliate is coming off back-to-back wins that included one game in Florida and one at Total Mortgage Arena in Bridgeport, Conn., Westchester’s home court.
Over the past week, Westchester posted an impressive 3-1 record in four games.
Westchester Knicks look to build off strong week behind Trevor Keels and Co.
Tuesday, Jan. 24
Westchester cruised past the Iowa Wolves with a 126-99 win last Tuesday. Trevor Keels led the Knicks with 26 points (9-of-15 from the field, 5-of-9 from three) to go with five assists and three rebounds, DaQuan Jeffries had 23 points (9-of-19) and eight rebounds, and Garrison Brooks had 21 points (10-of-15), a game-high 12 rebounds, and seven assists.
The team shot a solid 50% from the field (46-of-85), 50% from three (19-of-36), and 90% from the free throw line (9-of-10).
Friday, Jan. 27
The Knicks followed up the big win over the Wolves with a 108-99 loss to the Grand Rapids Gold (the Nuggets’ G League affiliate) on Friday. Grant Golden’s 28 points and 15 rebounds led the way for the Gold.
Once again, Keels led Westchester with 22 points (7-of-15) and six assists, Jeffries had 20 points (8-of-19), Obadiah Noel had 16 off the bench (5-of-9) and Melvin Frazier Jr. had 12 (3-of-11). Brooks pulled down a team-high 14 rebounds.
Sunday, Jan. 29
Westchester rebounded from Friday’s loss to Grand Rapids with a 103-94 win over the Gold on Sunday. James Akinjo led the Knicks off the bench with 27 points (9-of-15), five assists, and four rebounds. Frazier was the second-highest Westchester scorer with 18 points (5-of-10) and 10 rebounds. Jeffries led the starters with 14 points (5-of-16) points. Brooks had an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double.
Monday, Jan. 30
After Sunday’s win, Westchester was off to Lakeland, Fla. to take on the Lakeland Magic. A challenging back-to-back turned into a narrow 114-113 win for the Knicks. The game featured 40 lead changes between the Knicks and Magic, but behind Keels’ 24 points (9-of-16), Westchester pulled out the win.
Frazier finished with 19 points (8-of-12) and six rebounds while Dmytro Skapintsev had 15 points (5-of-9) and 11 rebounds off the bench.
Westchester will kick off February with a game against the Wisconsin Herd on Wednesday at Oshkosh Arena. The game will be aired on ESPN+ at 7 p.m. ET. After facing the Herd, the Knicks’ next game won’t be until Monday, Feb. 6.
