In a 2021 redraft written by Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey, New York Knicks guard Quentin Grimes was given a surprising amount of respect by being redrafted in the top 15 of the class.

While this was not too far off from his original selection, as he was drafted 25th overall in 2021, it is still a tremendous, surprising jump. When I say surprising, it is not because I think Grimes is not good, but it is more that I am surprised to see non-Knicks fans understand Grimes’ potential.

On paper, a rookie who only averaged about 6.0 PPG should not be taken 15th overall. However, Knicks fans were able to watch him play and see all the potential that we know he has.

B/R shows Knicks’ Quentin Grimes appreciation by having him taken at No. 15 in 2021 redraft

Despite not playing as much as he really should have last season, Quentin Grimes managed to put together a rather solid rookie season from a statistical standpoint. He averaged 6.0 PPG, 2.0 RPG, and 1.0 APG while shooting 40.4% from the field and 38.1% from three.

This was all while only playing 17.1 minutes per game in 46 contests, as it took coach Thibodeau some time to realize how helpful Grimes can be as a player.

Obviously, that is not the craziest rookie season on paper. However, Grimes’ versatility on defense, his ability to already be a consistent three-point shooter, and the potential to evolve and flush out his offensive game makes him a highly touted prospect.

This was something that Andy Bailey pointed out in the B/R article:

"The 6’5″ wing played with solid pace and feel and hit 38.1 percent of his three-point attempts. And in the 15 games in which he played at least 20 minutes, he averaged 12.1 points, 3.1 threes, 2.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 44.7 percent from deep."

It is very nice to see someone on as big of a platform as Bleacher Report understand and appreciate the potential Grimes has to be a very good player in today’s NBA.

Entering the 2022-23 season, Grimes will be looking to build upon his solid rookie season. With there being a somewhat decent chance we see him play in the starting lineup due to his defense, it is reasonable to expect big things out of the 22-year-old this season.
