Thursday, Sept. 1 was Cam Reddish’s 23rd birthday. That morning, New York Post’s Marc Berman put out a piece that said Reddish was looking for “a change of scenery.” That report was soon overshadowed by the Cleveland Cavaliers-Donovan Mitchell trade, but it’s time to now circle back to the Reddish situation.

The New York Knicks traded for the wing this past January, sending a first-round pick and Kevin Knox to the Atlanta Hawks. Reddish has played in 15 regular-season games for the Knicks, but his 2021-22 season ended a month early due to a right shoulder separation injury.

His name has come up in trade rumors, with the Los Angeles Lakers reportedly trying to get him at the February trade deadline. And with the Lakers looking to possibly trade Russell Westbrook before the start of the 2022-23 season, Reddish could still end up going to LA. His fit in New York isn’t clear and based on the Lakers’ interest, the Knicks might be interested in sending Reddish to California.

Reddish being traded is a topic that was floating around before Berman reported that the Duke product apparently wanted to leave New York. However, according to Reddish himself, Berman’s report was false.

Cam Reddish takes to Instagram to respond to Knicks trade rumors

It looks like Cam Reddish woke up on the morning of his 23rd birthday to learn that he wanted to get out of NYC, but he at least seemed to find it all entertaining. Hopefully the rest of his day was more enjoyable, though.

It’s important to keep in mind that although Reddish denied the report, a trade is still very much a possibility. Based on Tom Thibodeau’s reluctance to play Reddish last season, it might be for the best if he were to be traded. Reddish would certainly receive a larger role with the Lakers in 2022-23 than he would with the Knicks.

With a month and a half left until New York’s season opener in Memphis, the Knicks could still make a trade. And who knows, perhaps Reddish will be involved in a deal, but at least we now know that he isn’t against staying in New York.
