14 former Knicks from the 90s that can’t stay away from the game
3. Tom Thibodeau
Did you know that Tom Thibodeau was an assistant coach for the Knicks in the 90s? He was there from 1996-2003. So, he is familiar with the winning culture that the Knicks once had. Fast forward over 20 years later, and he is back in New York, but this time at the helm. Let’s hope that he can get us back to those winning days.
2. John Starks
A fan favorite for the Knickerbockers, John Starks’ name will always be mentioned in New York. The eight years he gave us sure were special. Right before our eyes, we watched Starks grow into an All-Star and a defensive specialist. He also provided a spark off the bench in 1996-97, winning the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award.
Starks has countless highlights and many moments in the Big Apple. I still wish he would’ve won that slam dunk contest in 1992!
Today, John Starks is involved with the game in a different way. He is a part of Ektio shoes. Ektio shoes uses technology to help players with their balance and stability. Starks has teamed up with the brand to promote the technology and create awareness. He has had past issues with foot injuries and believes that these shoes can prevent what he went through.
1. Patrick Ewing
Arguably the greatest Knick ever, Patrick Ewing has stayed close to the hardwood. Playing for the Knicks from 1985-2000, Ewing racked up 11 All-Star selections, seven All-NBA selections, three NBA All-Defense selections, a Rookie of the Year award, and two NBA Finals appearances.
Now, the 50th and 75th NBA anniversary teammate is the head coach of the Georgetown Hoyas men’s basketball program. In 2021, he led them to the Big East Conference Tournament Championship as the last seed, securing their first NCAA bid in seven years. Ewing won in college, in the NBA, and now as a coach. He is truly a winner!
