1: A top 4 pick

While New York should at least be hoping for at least a No. 11 pick, a top 4 selection would clearly be superior. If the Knicks were able to land a pick that high, New York would be able to snag one of the best available players in all of the draft.

There isn’t one player in particular who’s expected to go No. 1 overall and even if the Knicks don’t get the first pick, there’s a chance that a player like Smith might still be available.

Let’s say that the Oklahoma City Thunder get the No. 1 pick. Based on Oklahoma City’s needs, it could end up drafting Gonzaga’s Chet Holmgren. That’s a scenario that New York should be hoping for if it’s in the top 4 because that’d mean that the team would have a higher chance to draft players like Smith, Ivey, or Banchero.

The Knicks have had two top 4 picks since the start of the decade (Porzingis and Barrett), so landing a pick this high would be more than celebration-worthy. And it’d be a silver lining to finishing 11th in the conference and missing the playoffs.

Fans need to hope that William Wesley’s presence as New York’s representative at the lottery will help to shift the odds in the Knicks’ favor. No pressure World Wide Wes. All that fans are asking for is a selection inside of the top 4. Go work your magic.
