The New York Knicks have to bring back former Duke star Cam Reddish next season. The young small forward has yet to tap into his full potential. New York fans were upset when Marc Berman of the NY Post reported on Mar. 10 that Reddish would be out for the season with a shoulder injury.

At only 22-years-old, Reddish still has a lot more to prove in this league. He’s certainly a promising young raw talent. The wing can score effortlessly and the Knicks need his presence on the offensive end.

New York would be foolish to let Reddish slip away from them this summer, as many have speculated that he might’ve played his last game for New York. The front office must keep him out of trade discussions in the coming months.

The New York Knicks need Cam Reddish’s scoring ability

This isn’t news, but the Knicks have struggled to put the ball in the basket this year. Outside of rising star RJ Barrett, New York hasn’t really had many consistent scorers recently, which gives the team more reason to keep Reddish.

Even if he doesn’t end up being a starter for the Knicks, he’d still be a very reliable scorer off the bench. If given more time on the floor, Reddish could be the boost that New York’s been missing. In the 15 games that he played in this season with the Knicks, he averaged 6.1 points in 14.4 minutes.

Not only can Reddish finish at the rim with ease, he’s effective at knocking down 3-pointers. This season, he shot 37.9% from three in his 34 games with Atlanta, and at his age, he still has time to perfect his craft.

Why should Cam Reddish stay with the Knicks long term?

Since Reddish was traded to New York in the middle of this season, he’s instantly become a fan favorite. Knicks fans have been lobbying on social media for him to spend more time on the floor, and not just to stand in the corner, either.

In addition, he has a very good relationship with Barrett. The chemistry on the court between those two traces back to their college days in Durham.

As mentioned, even if New York can’t find a spot for him in the starting lineup next year, he’d be a valuable part of the second unit. Fans know how important it is for the Knicks to have a good bench due to the amount of times that they saved the team over the past two seasons.

New York will have a lot of tough roster decisions to make this upcoming offseason. Reddish will likely be coveted by many teams in the trade market, but the front office can’t let a player like him slip away, especially since his injury (and Tom Thibodeau) held him back.
