NY Knicks 58th Overall Selection – Jericho Sims ranks #4

I think this one was pretty obvious considering that Jericho Sims was drafted 58th overall.

That said, I do think he could carve himself out a nice role at the professional level with the right coaching.

Sims is a 6’10 center out of Texas, and boy is this kid bouncy…

By now, everyone and their mother has seen the viral video of Sims cracking his noggin off the edge of the rim…by accident.

The kid still doesn’t understand how athletic he actually is, which is scary.

He almost looks like a baby Dwight Howard out there, weighing in at 245lbs with incredibly broad shoulders and leaping ability that may be unmatched by most guys his size.

I could see him being a very solid backup center for the Knicks in the not-too-distant future.

That said, there are as many reasons why he went so late in the draft as there are reasons to love the kid.

Firstly, he’s pushing 23 years old as a senior and still nearly went undrafted this year. He got lucky the Knicks took a liking to him.

Sims was Mo Bamba’s backup at Texas back before he was drafted and remained the backup throughout his collegiate career.

If I had to guess, Sims will start out his NBA Career on a two-way contract or exclusively in the G-League for his rookie season.

He needs to be coached up and played to his strengths.

While he’s 4th on this list, I’m still very high on Jericho Sims and think he has a better chance to play in an orange and blue uniform than #3…
