NY Knicks: Miles “Deuce” McBride in place of Derrick Rose

So this one is definitely a bit of a bold assumption and hot take, but I truly believe Miles McBride will have a role on this team.

Whether its on the 3rd unit to start the season as he works his way into the rotation throughout the year…

OR…if he’s as good as he’s been advertised to be, he could be in the mix for the backup point guard role in place of Derrick Rose.

Interest in Rose has been through the roof from plenty of potential suitors, but an interesting team was brought up just recently that I think he would consider the most over sticking with Tom Thibodeau…

The Chicago Bulls.

By now we’ve all seen the video of Derrick Rose crying when he got the news that he was traded to the Knicks a few years back, so if Chicago decides to give ‘D-Rose’ the bag this summer, maybe he considers going back home.

At that point, the Knicks would really have to assess the point guard situation and figure out who might be ‘rotation worthy’.

The Knicks could then go sign a big-name free agent such as Lonzo Ball, Kyle Lowry, or Spencer Dinwiddie and if McBride ends up beating out Luca Vildoza for the backup spot, he could very well be the 2nd unit’s point guard to start off the season.

Anywhere you look, when you read about Deuce McBride, all you keep hearing about is how much Thibs loves this kid and how he’s a perfect system fit for a Thibs style offense.

At West Virginia last season, he averaged 15.9 points, 1.9 steals, and 4.8 assists while shooting over 43% from the field and just under 42% from deep on 4 attempts per game.

The kid’s got a chip on his shoulder, too.

There’s already an interview of him saying that he’s gonna make every team who passed on him regret that they did so.

I’m not saying he’s the backup today, but if he shows out and wins the opportunity, I could see him getting limited backup minutes behind an established veteran on opening night.
