NY Knicks: Quentin Grimes in place of Reggie Bullock or Alec Burks

So this one is a bit of a toss-up.

In all actuality, both Alec Burks and Reggie Bullock could be gone and replaced by Quentin Grimes and a free agency, perhaps Duncan Robinson or Evan Fournier?

But, if I had to choose which one I thought was leaving, it would be Burks, and here’s why.

Firstly, as we know, Tom Thibodeau has an affinity for defensive-minded players which Alec Burks certainly is not.

It’s the primary reason why he opted to start Reggie Bullock when healthy over Alec Burks all of last season even though Burks is a superior offensive weapon.

We also know that Thibs isn’t starting a rookie to open up the season or at any point realistically.

And I believe both players will command similar dollar amounts in free agency.

Therefore, if I had to guess who the team was more partial to paying and starting, it would be Bully.

So since they’re not going to commit big dollars to a backup in Burks, he’s the likeliest of the two to be replaced by Grimes.

The Knicks lose some on-ball creation with Grimes, but they attain a better defender off the bench and perhaps even a better shooter.

If the team plans on grooming Immanuel Quickley into more of a point guard over time, it would behoove them to leave the ball-handling duties to whichever backup point guard the team goes with and Quickley.

I just think so highly of Quentin Grimes that I can’t see him starting the season off on the team’s third unit.

He’s going to have a role on this team from Day 1 and that role will be as a backup wing in place of Alec Burks.
