A few Point Guards that the NY Knicks can possibly trade for

Damian Lillard – Dame is my favorite current player in the league today and as much as I would love to have him on the Knicks, he alone would not bring the team any closer to the promised land.

Sure, Julius Randle is probably better than anyone he’s ever played with to date, but a tandem of just those two aren’t getting Dame much farther in the playoffs than the team he’s on today.

If the Knicks were to somehow convince Kawhi Leonard to sign during this offseason as a package deal that also brought Dame to The Mecca via trade, I’m all for that.

But without that stipulation, I’d prefer the Knicks hold onto their assets.

Collin Sexton – Another very popular option amongst the fanbase.

About a week ago, we basically had an unofficial holiday called ‘Collin Sexton Day’ where all of Knicks’ Twitter was talking about the Cavs guard.

I’m a fan of the kid and I’m a fan of trading for him but only for the right price.

The Knicks would have to ‘double pay’ for him in that they would have to trade valuable pieces to bring him in, and then extend him by next season.

Fortunately, Sexton employs Leon Rose’s former agency, CAA…so maybe the Knicks get some insider knowledge regarding what Sexton would accept on an extension and that can determine whether the Knicks make the move or not.

Malcolm Brogdon – Great point guard, does everything Thibs would want from the position and is still signed for the next couple of seasons to a pretty fair contract.

He may not demand much more even once he becomes a free agent either.

Problem is, he’s been riddled with injuries over the past few seasons and he’s nearing 30 years old.

He’ll be on the wrong side of 30 when the Knicks have to commit another contract to him.

If the trade was a steal of a deal, I’d be all for it. Otherwise, I’d probably pass.

Jalen Brunson – It’s baffling how many people on Knicks Twitter don’t know how good Jalen Brunson actually is.

Every time I mention him on the Daily Knicks Twitter account, there are just so many people who think he’s nothing more than a backup point guard.

The kid is great and he can be a starter in this league without a doubt in my mind.

If he became available and the price was right, the Knicks should jump on the opportunity.

I’m sure Leon Rose has had this idea since he accepted the job, seeing how close he is with both Jalen and his father Rick.

Shai Gilgeoius-Alexander – The concept of OKC trading the 22-year-old budding superstar just doesn’t make a ton of sense.

The idea of it would be fun, of course…but it’s unlikely to happen and even if it did, it would cost way too much.

He’d probably come with a pretty similar-looking price tag to that of Damian Lillard and he’s not nearly the same player.

Dejounte Murray and Derrick White – Cute idea, but this ain’t it for the Knicks in my opinion.

Derrick White isn’t a point guard and Dejounte Murray may cost more than I’d personally want to give up for him via trade.

Also, he’s not a great shooter and I endured enough of that from watching Elfrid Payton all season.

Again, if the price tag was a steal, I’d do it but otherwise, these ideas are dead in the water.
