Would Chris Duarte fit well with Julius Randle on the NY Knicks?

Chris Duarte’s path to the NBA was quite different than most.

Firstly, he’s 24 years old as we speak and is one of the oldest members of this year’s draft class.

Born in the Dominican Republic, Duarte made his way to New York to play his high school ball, so bringing a hometown boy home would make for a good story.

He then went on to spend 2 years at a junior college (Northwest Florida State) before transferring to Oregon where he really took his game to a new level.

His age and ceiling are really the two main question marks that exist because he checks off all the other boxes you want from a traditional 3-and-D player.

He’s a talented, natural scorer on or off the ball.

Duarte scored over 17 points per game this season for the Ducks while shooting 53% from the field.

A very good decision-maker, and understands when to take shots versus when to pass.

An elite three-point shooter who made 42.4% of his threes on almost 6 attempts per game.

Elite finisher at the rim, as Duarte made over 71% of his shots at the basket inside, and has an incredible 63.3% effective field goal percentage overall.

Once upon a time, I wanted Duarte to the Knicks at pick 21 but now I think I’d rather go with upside at that pick.

If Chris Duarte somehow slipped to pick #32, the Knicks shouldn’t hesitate to grab him.
