Should the NY Knicks draft Charles Bassey with pick #32 of the 2021 NBA Draft?

Similar to our very own Mitchell Robinson, even though Bassey is likely to be taken in the early 2nd round, he could potentially end up being one of the top 2 or 3 centers from his class.

Mitch was taken in 2018, the same year as the current star center on the Phoenix Suns, Deandre Ayton.

I think Evan Mobley is the clear-cut best center prospect in this class, but the #2 spot could soon belong to Bassey.

Funnily enough, Bassey went to Western Kentucky which is the same school Mitchell Robinson had committed to out of high school…but we all know how that situation went down.

I think picking up Mitch’s option is a no-brainer move and then the team can begin to work on his potential extension.

If the two sides are close then Nerlens Noel is likely to have spent just this one season in New York and will be on the move to make way more money than the Knicks should be willing to give up to their backup center spot.

Charles Bassey has entered the chat.

Bassey is a 6’11 240lb behemoth who has everything Thibs likes in a center in that he’s a rim-running, athletic big man who loves to block shots.

He also finished last season with nearly 18 points and 12 rebounds per game.

One exciting aspect of Bassey’s game I’m sure the development staff would love to explore is his ability to stretch the floor.

He’s shown an ability to shoot a bit from mid and long-range, so once that skill is developed more so, unlike the centers on today’s roster…opposing defenses won’t be able to leave Bassey alone on the perimeter.

Bassey could very well go in the late 1st round, but if he’s there at #32, the Knicks may have their center of the future in Bassey.
