NY Knicks: 3 Ways Julius Randle Can Improve His Game Even Further
NY Knicks’ Julius Randle must continue to limit his turnovers
Perhaps the most surprising improvement made by Randle is his passing, where his team-high 5.9 assists per game are also the best numbers of his career. However, he has still struggled with turning the ball over.
He’s currently averaging 3.4 turnovers per game, and it often stems from opponents increasingly doubling him as the season has progressed.
Despite being tied for 20th in assists per game, he also averages the 7th most turnovers per game in the league.
While it may be unreasonable to expect him to further improve his average to 8-9 assists, he could be just as effective by limiting his turnovers.
One way the Knicks could help him out is by bringing in another primary ball-handler through free agency or a trade.
If New York can sign someone like Kyle Lowry or Chris Paul, they would help remove the primary playmaking burden from Randle’s shoulders and allow him to use his enhanced court vision only when absolutely necessary instead of forcing passes as he can sometimes be prone to.
Julius Randle has outperformed every single expectation this season, and he went from a player that people couldn’t wait to get rid of to a player that fans want to be signed to a max contract extension.
It’s scary to think that his best basketball is still yet to be played.
