Julius Randle needs to draw more fouls for the NY Knicks

Randle is currently averaging 5.8 free throw attempts per 36 minutes, his lowest mark since the 2016-17 season when he was a member of the Los Angeles Lakers.

While 5.8 is still a respectable average, he’s shown an ability to draw contact and get to the charity stripe at a much higher rate.

In his lone season in New Orleans, Randle ranked 5th in the entire NBA with 7.9 free throw attempts per 36 minutes.

A major factor in this is definitely his reduced number of layup attempts but he can still learn how to draw fouls even while playing on the perimeter.

In fact, 7 of the top 10 leaders in free throw attempts per game this season are either wing players or point guards.

Randle can learn to use his threat of a shot to get defenders up in the air, then create contact and get to the free-throw line like many of the league’s top scorers currently do.

It isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing style of basketball to watch, but nobody can deny how effective it is.

The Knicks are 16-7 when Julius attempts at least eight free throws in a game and are 21-23 when he attempts less than eight.

This will allow him to take his scoring to a truly elite level.
