NY Knicks Julius Randle Trade Rumor #1

The most notable trade rumor of the bunch…this one was floated out in some variation numerous times.

Ian Begley of SNY dropped this one back in February of last year.

In the trade, the Knicks would be acquiring Terry Rozier and Malik Monk in exchange for Julius Randle, Dennis Smith Jr, and some variation of a future first-round pick.

Seeing how much better Monk has become this season, the trade doesn’t look all that bad considering, but it would still be a major L for New York had it happened.

I’m a fan of Terry. I wanted him when he was lighting it up with Boston in Kyrie Irving’s absence.

He’s also having the best year of his career this season, averaging around 20 points and 4 assists while shooting 40% from deep.

But still…no where near the level of production or player that is Julius Randle across the board.

At the time this rumor dropped, Malik Monk for Dennis Smith Jr would have been a wash. Looking back that would have been viewed as a steal for the Knicks.

I actually suggested that exact trade earlier this season until Monk decided to become a good basketball player again.

What’s crazy to me is the fact that the Knicks were the ones who would have had to include the 1st round pick in the deal, even before Monk broke out of his shell.

That’s how Julius Randle and his trade value were viewed once upon a time.

Wild.
