NY Knicks Offseason Trade Target #1 – Malcolm Brogdon
Let’s start this one off with a bang!
Malcolm Brogdon was an interesting name that was floated out right before the March 25th NBA Trade Deadline last month and we wrote about why the Knicks should target him here.
It seemed that the rumors suggested that the Pacers were at least listening to offers for the former 2nd round pick out of Virginia.
The Pacers have been in a major rut all season, and even after replacing Victor Oladipo with Car LeVert, it hasn’t helped the team get much better.
They currently sit in 9th place in the Eastern Conference standings, right behind our New York Knickerbockers.
Being in a small market like Indiana severely hurts their chances of acquiring the best free agents if and when they become available…so a rebuild seems inevitable.
If big names like Domantas Sabonis and Malcolm Brogdon are being mentioned in trade rumors, it has to mean that there are questions within the Pacers’ front office about the team’s direction.
While Brogdon’s age doesn’t fit the timeline of the Knicks right now, I think the concept of a timeline is out the window due to their recent success.
Brogdon is set to make just shy of $22 million next year and $23 million the year after, so acquiring him wouldn’t completely cripple their cap space moving forward.
Another interesting reason why Brogdon could be a Knick in the near future is that he’s currently employing CAA Sports, Leon Rose’s old agency.
Coming off of a season where he tallied 21 points, 6 assists, and 5 boards while shooting 40% from deep might increase Indiana’s asking price but I think he’d be well worth it.
