Knicks Free Agency: 5 best power forwards available
3) Best free agent power forwards: Jerami Grant
While many players are expected to exercise their options to avoid free agency in a tight market, Jerami Grant is probably an exception. The young forward will likely hit the market as one of the most sought after power forwards.
Contract: Grant will almost certainly decline his $9.3 million player option in hopes of a securing a long-term deal for at least that much as a starting salary, and perhaps slightly more if he can create a bidding war between the right teams. However, he could be limited to that $9 million range if contending teams over-the-cap are looking to secure his services using their mid-level exception.
Game: It’s easy to see why teams would be intrigued by what Grant can offer. The 6-foot-9 wing fits nicely in a modern NBA lineup. He can shoot, play defense, and he’s only 26 years old. While his minutes and production dipped a bit last season, he is good for over ten points per game, will pull down a handful of rebounds, and shoots over 38 percent from downtown at decent volume.
Fit: Many Knicks fans have long liked the idea of bringing Grant to New York. He represents the kind of non-sexy free agent move that is opposite of the big-name splashes that rumors always try to suggest the Knicks should make. He would be a great fit for Tom Thibodeau.
