Blake Griffin: He Brings Star Power

This is something the New York fan base desperate craves. I recently wrote about how the Knicks would be wise to follow the Miami Heat’s model of adding an All-Star and building strategically through the draft. While I am skeptical that Griffin can be a Jimmy Butler type game changer, he would give the team a real chance at a postseason berth in a weak Eastern Conference.

He could be the first step in building an expectation of winning and landing a current All-Star caliber player down the road.

Does it make sense for the Knicks to acquire Blake Griffin?

There are clear drawbacks to a union between New York and Griffin. He is always one awkward landing away from missing significant time. He is older. And he has a massive contract that would effectively end any hope of getting a seat at the table for the Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kawhi Leonard led 2021 free agency class.

However, judging by the Knicks current level of dysfunction, as well as their recent history, do they really have a chance to land either of these players?

Their cap space is not the inhibiting factor. It is their reputation as perennial losers. Griffin could be the first step in changing that culture and expectation.

Next. Voting for Knicks to keep. dark

At the very least, the Knicks front office should have a serious discussion about adding Blake Griffin to their young core, while continuing to search for another All-Star to lead the new-look Knicks.
