For Hiring Thibodeau

1) Experience

Thibodeau has eight years of experience in the NBA. He has been around the block and has had success in that time, too. Thibodeau is well-respected around the league, and when you hire him, you know what you are getting: a hard-nosed, defensive-minded team.

Thibodeau’s winning percentage of .589 is impressive, plus he has 24 wins in the playoffs. New York is a tough place to coach and I think having experience is needed to handle the local media. Thibodeau was able to manage the pressure in Chicago, which should help him in the media capital of the world. Overall, his success, experience, and age make him a good candidate as the next head coach.

2) Winning Culture

It’s not easy to win in the NBA, and Thibodeau has made the playoffs six times. His .647 winning percentage with the Bulls ranks second to Phil Jackson in team history. He qualified for the playoffs in each of the seasons he was coaching in Chicago.

During five years with the Bulls, he was one of the best coaches in the league. He changed the culture of a franchise that had struggled since Jordan retired. The Knick fans would welcome the same results. I think those Bulls and T-wolves teams had more talent in terms of stars, like Derrick Rose and Karl-Anthony Towns, but it does show that his style of play can lead to success in the NBA.
