The New York Knicks will welcome back Kristaps Porzingis and the Dallas Mavericks to Madison Square Garden. A look at the game’s odds and how to watch it Thursday night.
The Dallas Mavericks’ Kristaps Porzingis already faced his old team once, resulting in a win for the New York Knicks, one of just two victories through 11 games. On Thursday, Nov. 14, they will welcome Porzingis back to Madison Square Garden, where jeers are expected for the player who once requested his exit from the organization.
Although Porzingis’ time in New York was short-lived, his return will spark memories for fans of what could have been. He was expected to become the next face of the franchise, following Carmelo Anthony‘s footsteps and other players that came before. Few teams have 7-footers as their leading face, let alone someone at 7-foot-3, but after their relationship devolved, the Latvian big man wanted to leave, which the Knicks granted in January.
Almost 10 months later, the Knicks have little to show for. DeAndre Jordan and Wesley Matthews no longer play for them; Dennis Smith Jr. showed flashes upon arrival but has struggled when given an opportunity this season; the acquired first-round picks do not arrive until 2021 and 2023.
Sure, Porzingis has not unleashed for Dallas just yet, with 18.3 points on 40.1 percent shooting, but this is after only a handful of games upon return from a torn ACL. It may take time to recuperate, and if that happens, this trade’s perception will worsen.

As for the actual game, the Knicks have missed Mitchell Robinson due to a concussion for the past three matchups. His status remains unknown before game time.
A strained hamstring has sidelined Elfrid Payton for the past six contests. His status is also in question. The Knicks have started Frank Ntilikina in his place.
