The New York Knicks will attempt to overcome an 0-3 start to the 2019-20 NBA season against the Chicago Bulls.

On Monday, Oct. 28, the New York Knicks will return to the court for their fourth game of the 2019-20 NBA season. It will also be their fourth attempt at the first win of the year, dropping each of the first three matchups to the San Antonio Spurs, Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics.

The Knicks will remain at home for this tilt, facing the Chicago Bulls, the first non-playoff team from 2018-19 on their schedule, although they have intriguing talents in Lauri Markkanen, Coby White, Otto Porter Jr. and Wendell Carter Jr., each of whom can make it another difficult night for coach David Fizdale’s team.

This game could uncover the next chapter of the point guard saga. Elfrid Payton has taken a clear lead to start, but Dennis Smith Jr.’s disappointing play and Frank Ntilikina‘s absence have become the bigger story of the season’s first week.

More from Knicks News

Smith Jr.’s struggles became all too apparent Saturday night, when the Madison Square Garden fans booed him off the court; meanwhile, they chanted for Ntilikina, who did not appear in the blowout loss to Boston.

Fizdale has not backed off giving Smith Jr. playing time, but that could change if the third-year guard is a detractor to the on-court play. Ntilikina is the alternative, but he has sparingly appeared. However, with Smith out due to a death in his family, it will obviously cause changes.

Otherwise, the Knicks have RJ Barrett‘s scoring prowess to anticipate. The rookie guard has settled in, averaging 21 points on 51 percent shooting. Without Zion Williamson‘s presence for the New Orleans Pelicans, Barrett looks like the early frontrunner for NBA Rookie of the Year.
