Yet another loss dropped the New York Knicks to 0-3 on Saturday night, falling to the Boston Celtics.

The New York Knicks had the heart taken out of them while being blown out by the Boston Celtics, 118-95. Shoulders slumped, unable to defend against the onslaught, they surrendered. It seems the fans were not happy with their team. During the team introductions, they were subdued, until RJ Barrett was introduced. When Dennis Smith, Jr. missed a shot in the third quarter, he was loudly booed. After this, they started chanting for Frank Ntilikina. Finally, they chanted loudly for Tacko of the Boston Celtics, cheering whenever he had the ball or made a shot.

What would make the Madison Square Garden crowd treat their players this way? Losing. During the summer, heartfelt videos were posted on social media, promising a better, more successful season. The season start is 0-3 and as a fan, you could be wondering when and if it will ever happen.

The Knicks started the game on a high note. After the Celtics scored the first two points, the Knicks scored 13 unanswered points leading the Celtics 13-2. The first half found the Boston Celtics shooting just 16 of 49, including a mere 6 of 25 from the three-point line as the Knicks led 51-46.

The defense was just slightly better than it was against the Nets on Friday night. The turnovers, unfortunately, were not. By the end of the first quarter the Knicks had seven turnovers to Boston’s two. The Knicks’ starters had 19 of the teams 25 by the end of the night.

That has been the story of the first three games. Turnovers, missed free throws and no perimeter defense. The Celtics were 16 of 41 from the three-point line while the Knicks were a mere 7 of 27. Although they led the Celtics at the end of the first half, the Knicks’ second team, led by point guard Dennis Smith, Jr. left nothing to believe in.

Coach Fizdale said in his post-game interview that “everyone took their blame in the part of that (second-half slaughter) including me”.  Calling the second half “a stinker.”

Three Stars

  1. RJ Barrett continues to be the bright light for this team. He led the team in points with 26 off 9 of 20 field goals; 4 of 6 from outside; 4 of 7 from the free-throw line. He also had 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 turnovers.
  2. Mitchell Robinson was perfect in scoring with 7 of 7 field goals; 3 of 3 from the free-throw line; with 6 rebounds, 3 blocks and unfortunately 4 fouls.
  3. Kemba Walker was the high scorer with 32 points on 11 of 17 field goals; 7 of 12 from three; 3 of 4 from the free-throw line. He lifted his team to victory adding 5 rebounds, 4 assists, no turnovers, and 2 steals.
  • Julius Randle is still having trouble in the paint which is leading to all of his turnovers. Tonight he played 29 minutes, scoring only 10 points on 4 of 11 field goals; 0 of 2 from the three and 2 of 4 from the free-throw line. Randle was visibly shaken during the fourth quarter and could be seen in a deep discussion with the assistant coach.
  • Marcus Morris played 28 minutes contributing 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 turnovers.
  • Elfrid Payton was the starting point guard playing 30 minutes with 8 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 turnovers.
  • Damyean Dotson played only 3 minutes in the fourth quarter contributing one three-pointer.
  • Ignas Brazdeikis, Wayne Ellington and Frank Ntlikina did not play, coach’s decision.
