The New York Knicks will start their preseason on Monday, Oct. 7. Facing the Washington Wizards, a look at the game information for this first matchup.

Nearly six months to the date, the New York Knicks ended their 2018-19 NBA season at 17-65. It tied for the worst record in franchise history, featuring an 18-game losing streak along the way. Few aspects of the game went properly in head coach David Fizdale’s first season, and it was a disaster.

Well, after all this time, the Knicks will take the court for their first in-game action of the 2019-20 campaign. This starts against the Washington Wizards, on the road, at Capital One Arena. They will play a home-at-home series to open the preseason.

This is the orange and blue introduction for the following offseason signings: Julius Randle, Bobby Portis, Marcus Morris, Elfrid Payton, Taj Gibson and Wayne Ellington. The only free agent missing, Reggie Bullock will not play due to surgery recovery. Otherwise, these players will have a spotlight on them, especially with how Fizdale uses them and mixes them with the returning young talents.

RJ Barrett and Ignas Brazdeikis will also play their first professional basketball game, not counting the summer league. They will don a Knicks jersey in an attempt to showcase their basketball abilities instantly and play into bigger roles to open the regular season.

A focus will be who Fizdale starts. So far, there is no indication of who will comprise the opening five, and it is possible for this group to frequently change before the season opener on Oct. 23. Perhaps Mitchell Robinson is the only shoo-in, after his impressive run to close 2018-19.

As for Washington, they are another team in transition. Still without John Wall due to injury, they will turn to Bradley Beal to do it all, and given the lack of depth on this roster, the All-Star shooting guard could be in for a career year, statistically. Rui Hachimura, Thomas Bryant and Davis Bertans are all interesting pieces, but finding production outside of them will be the ultimate test.
