If the New York Knicks are looking to find a superstar at the small forward position, then Michael Porter Jr. is the prospect to target. New York is clearly doing so, as it’s already interviewed him at the Combine, scouted his Pro Day, and scheduled a private workout.

With teams reaching out to the Knicks to gauge their interest in trading up from No. 9 to select Porter, it’s one opinion’s writer that it would be worth the risk.

Porter’s medical history will determine the Knicks’ next move. If his surgically repaired back checks out, then general manager Scott Perry should have no qualms about moving up to select Porter—assuming, of course, that the asking price is within reason.

Porter may have an injury concern on his résumé, but he’s also a generational talent who’s a healthy career away from being an All-NBA mainstay.

Porter is a 6’11” forward who can line up at the 3 or the 4, defending both positions with his size, length, and athleticism. When healthy, he explodes at the rim, breaks out into transition with relative ease, and makes sagging defenders pay with his jump shot.

Porter also has impressive court vision for a player his size, which further supports the belief that he can be a franchise cornerstone.
