4. Limit Turnovers

If the New York Knicks are going to defeat the Toronto Raptors, they’ll need to stop making the game easier for the opposition. Mistakes happen throughout games, but limiting the poor decisions will be vital to team success.

No team has been better at turning turnovers into points on the other end of the floor than Toronto, and few teams have committed more turnovers than New York.

Toronto is scoring a league-leading 21.0 points off of turnovers per game. By comparison, the Knicks rank No. 20 in the NBA in turnovers per game and are allowing 19.1 points off of turnovers per game—No. 24 in the Association.

Toronto will make New York work for all of its buckets, but careless passes and frustrated shot attempts will do Jeff Hornacek’s crew no favors.

It’s worth noting that the Knicks committed just 11 turnovers during the 106-101 victory over the Utah Jazz. Utah, like Toronto, ranks as one of the top teams in the NBA at generating offense via its defense, and New York overcame that hurdle.

No assumptions should be made, but the Knicks can repeat history if they play a methodical and responsible style of basketball.
