5. The Rumor Is Proven False(?)

The day of rumors about Kristaps Porzingis and a potential departure from the New York Knicks culminated with an important report. One of the most respected writers on the NBA scene addressed the validity of the current rumors.

According to Howard Beck of Bleacher Report, who reported Jeff Hornacek’s hiring before anyone else had the scoop, the trade rumors are false.

That should put an end to what was a wild day.

Beck is no more or less reputable than Wojnarowski, but the manner in which the rumors developed should provide insight. It was progressively revealed how limited the trade consideration was.

In fact, it was consistent with what Wojnarowski wrote in his actual report and not what was gauged and interpreted from his tweets.

Moving forward, Knicks fans can embrace the future without worrying too much about where Porzingis will end up. The hope, however, is that Phil Jackson will find this to be the necessary impetus to extinguish the bridge that’s currently burning.

If he succeeds in doing so, then Porzingis could join the No. 8 overall selection and Willy Hernangomez in leading New York into the future.
