1. The Need For A Small Forward

There’s a working theory that no position is more important in the modern NBA than point guard. There’s certainly merit to such a belief, as evidenced by the team success that the likes of Stephen Curry, Chris Paul, and John Wall have created.

What’s inexplicably underrated, however, is the extreme importance of having a force of nature at the small forward position.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jimmy Butler, Kevin Durant, Paul George, Gordon Hayward, LeBron James, and Kawhi Leonard are all star-caliber small forwards on playoff teams. That list of star-caliber players at the position is growing yearly.

Although there are teams that excel with defensive specialists at the 3-spot, there are enough franchises winning at an elite level with star small forwards to believe it’s a strong formula.

By adding Jonathan Isaac, the New York Knicks would have a chance to be the next team to build with an elite small forward. With the potential to be both an elite scorer and a lockdown defender, Isaac is a rare example of a prospect with upside to explore on both ends of the floor.

With the two-way upside of a Paul George or Kawhi Leonard, the Knicks could find a dream acquisition in Isaac.
