Round 2, Pick 58 (via Rockets): Damyean Dotson, Houston Cougars

Position: Shooting Guard
Age: 23 (5/6/1994)
Height, Weight, Wingspan: 6’5.5″, 205 pounds, 6’9″
2016-17 Slash Line: .470/.443/.830
2016-17 Season Averages: 34.3 MPG, 17.4 PPG, 6.9 RPG, 1.1 APG, 0.9 SPG, 3.4 3PM

Damyean Dotson was featured at No. 58 in last week’s mock draft, and he’s still the preferred option for the New York Knicks. He has a prototypical build for a 2 guard, dynamic athleticism, and the potential to be a 3-and-D contributor.

Dotson will need to improve his defensive fundamentals in the NBA, but there’s reason to believe he can develop into a starting-caliber player long-term.

Dotson stands just under 6’6″ with a 205-pound frame and a 6’9″ wingspan. At the 2017 NBA Draft Combine, he proved his athletic value with a 38″ max vertical leap and a Top 5 time in the three-quarter sprint, which measures end-to-end speed.

Physically, the 23-year-old Dotson should be able to translate well to the NBA with the speed, leaping ability, lateral quickness, and strength to play both ends.

Offensively, Dotson is an elite sharpshooter who drained 108 3-point field goals on 44.3 percent shooting from beyond the arc in 2016-17. New York needs help in the shooting department, and that makes Dotson quite an appealing option here.

By adding Jonathan Isaac, Tyler Dorsey, and Dotson via the 2017 NBA Draft, the Knicks would have three players who can consistently space the floor in an off or on-ball capacity.
