Kyle O’Quinn
There have been times during the 2016-17 NBA regular season at which Kyle O’Quinn has looked the part of a borderline star. The clash with the Chicago Bulls was a shining example of it, as the New York Knicks big man stepped up with a tremendous performance.
Consistency will be the key for O’Quinn moving forward, but this was a performance to remember from one of Phil Jackson’s favorite players.
O’Quinn played 25 minutes against the Bulls, recording eight points, 12 rebounds, five offensive rebounds, five assists, and five blocks. He shot 4-of-6 from the field, but his efficiency was only a fraction of what made his performance memorable.
Against Chicago, O’Quinn became the first Knick to record at least 10 rebounds, five assists, and five blocks in a single game since Patrick Ewing in 1996.
O’Quinn contributed as a scorer, rebounder, facilitator, and defender, and when that’s measured as true, there’s no rational way to exclude them from praise. He may not have tallied the best +/-, but he was nothing short of well-rounded.
Any time a player does something that earns a comparison to Ewing, it’s safe to assume that they did something exceptional. O’Quinn did.
