One could make an easily justifiable argument that no high-profile player has regressed more in 2016-17 than Grayson Allen. His tripping antics have made him a national villain and his confidence on the court has clearly been shaken.
Allen can do some damage control during the Conference Tournament and could potentially appeal to the New York Knicks’ front office.
Allen is a polarizing figure who’s either loved or hated by those who watch him. He was unbelievable in 2015-16, averaging 21.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.5 3-point field goals made on a slash line of .466/.417/.837.
He’s suffered sharp declines in both production and efficiency in 2016-17, however, and his role has declined because of it.
The likelihood of New York drafting Allen is relatively low, but he could be available in the second round. If Allen is available for the Knicks to select in Round 2, then watching him perform at a high level during the biggest games of the season would improve his standing.
Allen has fallen hard in 2016-17, but there’s no better time to make critics forget about your flaws than March Madness.
