Kristaps Porzingis: Confidence With The Ball

Position: Power Forward
Age: 21 (8/2/1995)
Experience: 2nd Season
2016-17 Slash Line: .447/.378/.784
2016-17 Season Averages: 32.7 MPG, 18.1 PPG, 7.1 RPG, 1.7 ORPG, 1.3 APG, 2.0 BPG, 1.9 3PM

As established by his becoming the tallest player to win the 2017 NBA Skills Challenge, Kristaps Porzingis deserves his nickname. The Unicorn is one of the most dynamic talents in league history and can be accurately described as unique.

For as well as Porzingis has played during the 2016-17 season, the New York Knicks are going to need him to be more confident with the ball in his hands.

Porzingis is second on the team in scoring and first in both blocks and 3-point field goals made per game. He’s one of the top offensive rebounders on the roster, as well, and has maintained efficient scoring marks throughout the season.

True as that all may be, Phil Jackson hit the nail on the head when he stated that Porzingis has an unnecessary tendency to hesitate when he gets the ball.

Porzingis stated earlier this season that he’s beginning to realize how tall he truly is. The full realization of that strength will come in time, and when it does, he’ll shoot with the knowledge that no one can block his shot.

Along with developing that knowledge, Porzingis must not be afraid to attack his man. At his size, he doesn’t need to blow by anyone—he simply needs to play angles and maintain proper form on his shot.
