2. Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons are reportedly interested in trading starting point guard Reggie Jackson. One of the teams that the Pistons have come in contact with is the Orlando Magic—a trade opportunity that would likely entail a swap of Jackson for Elfrid Payton.

If the Pistons can’t come to terms with the Magic, then it would behoove Phil Jackson to explore the possibility of a Jackson for Derrick Rose trade.

The complication in this trade is making the salaries line up. The New York Knicks would be sending a $21.3 million salary to Detroit and Jackson would only account for just under $15 million—not quite enough for a deal to be made.

The two players who could facilitate a trade are Aron Baynes and Boban Marjanovic, and there’s no guaranteeing that Stan Van Gundy would be willing to part with either.

Baynes has become Detroit’s backup center, and although he isn’t necessarily essential, he helps fuel the team’s identity. Marjanovic, meanwhile, has fallen out of favor in the rotation, but is signed to a three-year deal that New York may not be willing to take on.

The hurdles bump Detroit down this list, but if New York could acquire Reggie Jackson, it would land a dynamic talent who’s signed to a team-friendly long-term deal.
