Con: Unhappy With Role

The single most important aspect of this discussion is the widespread belief that Arron Afflalo is unhappy with the New York Knicks. As is usually the case, the issues began to surface when interim head coach Kurt Rambis removed Afflalo from the starting lineup.

Rambis claimed to view Afflalo as the ideal sixth man for the Knicks, but Afflalo appeared unreceptive to the change.

Afflalo made an ominous Instagram post following his move to the second unit. He subliminally mentioned the two-year contract he signed in 2015, as well as his 2016 player option, relegation to the bench, and apparent frustration.

For those who don’t recall, the caption on the post read as follows:

"“Two years of just control what you can control right ? …. While making years of growth appear as if it has just stopped … Yea ok …. 10th year coming up and this time around that s*** won’t be forgotten.”"

Spoken like a man who isn’t returning to New York.

If the Knicks are to build a winning culture, then everyone must be on the same page. Rambis is out as head coach, but that doesn’t necessarily change the fact that Afflalo grew impatient and unhappy with the organization.

The only reason Afflalo should accept his player option is if he’s comfortable with the role New York asks him to play.
