According to Chris Mannix of CSN New England, New York Knicks team president Phil Jackson has taken a liking to Boston Celtics wing Evan Turner. That’s an old rumor, but it’s one that’s become all the more intriguing as the season has progressed.

Turner isn’t much of a 3-point shooter—at all—but he’s solid in virtually all other areas.

Turner made 117 midrange jump shots on a respectable mark of 39.5 percent from the field—a mark that comes with the knowledge that 68.4 percent of those field goals were unassisted. He’s holding opponents to 42.4 percent shooting from the field, which is 1.9 percent lower than their average field goal percentage.

That comes on a significant sample size with an average of 9.9 field goal attempts defended in 81 games played.

Turner’s offensive versatility includes his ability to make a strong impact as a facilitator. He ranked No. 6 amongst shooting guards in assists per game, is a physically overwhelming presence in transition, and was one of just three shooting guards with an assist-to-turnover ratio above 2.0.

Turner certainly has his flaws, but he’s an intelligent player with a two-way skill set that fits Jackson’s vision.
