NBA Trade Deadline: All Quiet on the Knicks Front
By William Lee
The NBA trade deadline is upon us, but it has been all quiet on the New York Knicks front.
The NBA trade deadline is today! The hours are winding down on the February 18th 3 P.M EST deadline.
It has been a very quiet NBA trade deadline so far, there hasn’t been much transactions. The biggest headline so far has been the Detroit Pistons trading away Brandon Jennings and Ersan Ilyasova for the Orlando Magic‘s Tobias Harris
Definitely not any significant, game-changing transactions. Honestly, there hasn’t even been THAT much rumors…

Sadly for New York Knicks fans, the same is true… The biggest rumor was a “very preliminary” three-team trade that would have sent Carmelo Anthony to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Boston Celtics‘ draft picks and possibly former-Knick Timofey Mozgov. Which was quickly squashed by Melo with his no-trade clause saying “I’m not going nowhere“. Then there’s the rumors of New York wanting to trade away Kyle O’Quinn and Jose Calderon… good luck with that… nobody wants that garbage…
According to Fred Kerber of the New York Post, that is exactly how executives around the league feel.
"“I have heard zero with the Knicks. And really, what can they do anyway? Their [tradeable] talent level isn’t that good,” one rival general manager said.“I would think anything they do would probably be more cosmetic than anything,” said another exec. “They just don’t have the assets.”"
And Knicks’ President Phil Jackson is well aware of this, as per Scott Cacciola of the New York Times.
"“Like any team that’s looking to improve themselves, we’re open to discussion, and we have to be,”“That’s just the nature of the game. Do we sit in a really favorable spot? Probably not. There aren’t a tremendous amount of favorable trade items that are on our roster.”"
With Anthony putting to bed the largest Knicks’ rumor, he doubts there will be any trade within the organization as the NBA trade deadline looms, as per Laura Albanese of Newsday.
"“If you didn’t hear nothing as of now, I doubt that we’re probably even doing something,”“This game over the years has done some weird things and we still have until 3 p.m. tomorrow to try to figure some stuff out. I haven’t been hearing anything. The guys on the team seem like they haven’t been hearing anything.”"
Although, Anthony is not worried about the NBA trade deadline at all. His only concerns are the current state of the Knicks.
"“You haven’t seen or heard of any blockbusters that’s happened or any sort of game changers that’s happened. The only thing I’m worried about is us at this moment and what we do here on out.”"

At this moment, the current state of the Knicks is not pretty… New York is currently on a six-game losing streak, having lost their last 10/11 games. At the All-Star break, New York stands 12th in the Eastern Conference with a 23-32 record.
The Knicks were back at work, practicing on Wednesday after a week off with the All-Star break.
Newly appointed interim head coach Kurt Rambis also does not foresee much changes ahead for the Knicks’ roster, as per Stefen Bondy of the New York Daily News.
"“There hasn’t been a lot of activity from our end that I’m aware of,”“That’s for (Jackson and GM Steve Mills) to assess. Anything that comes up I’m sure they will address it with me and ask opinion of the coaching staff and what they think. But nothing’s come out.”"

Nothing’s come out. Sadly, in all likelihood after the 3 P.M EST NBA trade deadline, this will still be the case for the New York Knicks. It has been all quiet on the Knicks front.
