Knicks News: Heated Film Session Igniting Winning Streak
By William Lee
The Bull’s defeat could have saved the Knicks’ season, it lead to a heated film session that ignited the current winning streak.
A week ago it was all doom and gloom when the New York Knicks started the New Year with the worst fourth quarter in franchise history. Scoring only eight points in the final period against the Chicago Bulls on New Year Day.

It seemed like the Knicks were about to spiral down a dark path with January’s schedule stacked with Playoffs-bound opponents. A week later, New York is on a three game winning streak! The Knicks won a home-and-home series with the Atlanta Hawks, and cooled off the Miami Heat Wednesday night. Something no one could have foreseen.
So maybe the disgrace on New Year day, in which the Bulls outscored the Knicks 31-8 in the fourth quarter – was not too bad… In fact, it could have saved the season. According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, after head coach Derek Fisher suggested the team quit to the media, he ripped the team a new one in film session.
"Langston Galloway told The Post that Fisher was angrier than he’d ever seen him after the Chicago loss. A feisty, one-hour film session followed the next day with a lot of vocal participants. It was by far the longest film review of the season, and focused on the team’s step-slow defense and lack of triangle execution in the fourth quarter."
Maybe a kick in the butt might have been exactly what the Knicks needed. Everyone on the team was down on the loss, per Langston Galloway.
"“He was upset with us,’’“And most guys were upset with themselves, too because we didn’t play up to our level.”"
Galloway suggested that the film session got the team back to playing the right way, and that the Bulls’ loss was a wake up call.
"“We wanted to start the new year off right. We wanted to get it going on the right track. The Chicago game, we got into old habits and since then we picked it up a whole another notch. It woke us up.’’"
Superstar Carmelo Anthony also agreed that the loss to Chicago got him feeling down, as per Al Iannazzone of Newsday.
"“A game like that, man, as individuals, as competitors, that eats you up,”“Long bus ride to the airport, long flight home, long ride home once you get in — that eats you up. And then you’ve got to sit there and watch that, watch that game, watch that film. I watched it over and over the day after that.”“As competitors, if a game like that don’t eat you up, something is wrong.”"
Anthony suggested that the embarrassment of the Chicago game might have been necessary. That it could have been a necessary evil.
"“I don’t want to say that you need games like that, but that game right there, hopefully it sparked something in everybody.”"

Be it coming from the sour taste of the game itself or Fisher’s tongue lashing that he gave to the team, it is good to see the team took a negative and turned it into a positive. To use the New Year Day game as motivation moving forward and keeping a positive attitude, it is great to see.
Fisher deflected any compliments, saying that it was the team that decided that they had, had enough. And that was the turning point, the change in their mentality made all the difference.
"“Players are smarter than we give them a lot of credit for at times,”“They’re more prideful and take this job more seriously than people think. I thought after the Chicago game, not necessarily what I said but how they felt about it themselves was a real turning point.”"
