The New York Knicks crossed the Brooklyn Bridge to take on the Nets Friday night.

The Knicks got off to yet another slow start, and Brooklyn took advantage. Kevin Garnett and Jarrett Jack combined to score 10 of the first 12 Nets’ points to take an early 12-6 lead. Brooklyn suffocated the Knicks defensively, often opting to double team Carmelo Anthony. Anthony went 3/11 in the first half, but was at least able to draw fouls to get to the free throw line. Anthony scored 13 points in the first half, doing most of his damage from the charity stripe, going 7/9 from the line. New York as a whole shot only 40% from the field at intermission.

Brooklyn led by as many as 17 points in the first half, with Brook Lopez leading the way with 14 points, along with Garnett who was also in double figures, scoring 10 points. Lopez finished with a game high 22 points, including 8 rebounds and 6 blocks! Brooklyn scorched the net (pun intended) in the first quarter, shooting 61.9% from the field. The Nets cooled off relatively in the second quarter, only converting on half their attempts from the field. Brooklyn led 53-45 after the first half of play.

Jose Calderon hit two three-pointers to help ignite a 10-2 run to get within four points, 59-55 with 7:17 remaining in the third quarter. Calderon’s three-point shooting would spark another run to give New York their first lead of the game late in the third quarter. Amare Stoudemire draw a foul and scored from the free throw line, and then found Lance Thomas cutting on the baseline for a nice reverse layup avoiding the block to cap off a 7-0 run that gave the Knicks a 66-64 lead. Stoudemire made his return from a four games absence, and amid rumors that he may request a buyout after the All-Star Break.

Joe Johnson scored five straight points to take a 73-72 lead to open up the fourth quarter for Brooklyn. New York missed eight consecutive shots in the middle of the final period; Nets took advantage of this, going on an 8-0 run lead by Jack, who was personally responsible for six of those points. Jack scored on a pull up jumper, and dished out two assist to Bojan Bogdanovic, including a nifty bounce pass on the fast break to lead Bogdanovic to a layup. The run gave Brooklyn an 81-75 with 4:52 remaining in the fourth quarter.

New York was able to cut the deficit to a one point margin three times late in the fourth quarter, but ultimately was never able to get over that hump. On the third and final attempt to claim the lead, Jack with 13.8 seconds left in the game, hit a dagger three-pointer that gave Brooklyn a 90-86 lead. Anthony quickly drove to the rim for a layup to get it within two points. With New York forced to foul to prolong the game, fittingly Jack was fouled and calmly nailed the two free throws to ice the game. Jack finished the game with 20 points and 8 assist.

Anthony finished the game with 21 points but needed 23 attempts to achieve this. The Brooklyn native heard chants of “OVERRATED” when attempting free throws at the Barclays Center Friday night. New York shot 38.2% from the field for the game, although was able to stay in the game by taking care of the basketball, turning over the ball only five times. Langston Galloway a guard at 6-2 grabbed an impressive 11 rebounds, just missing his first NBA career double-double by a point.
