The New York Knicks have played all but one preseason game without starting point guard Derrick Rose. It’s played three of its five preseason games without starting center Joakim Noah and was without starting small forward Carmelo Anthony on Wednesday, October 19.

Despite those significant absences, the Knicks have pulled to 3-2 through five preseason games after defeating the Boston Celtics 121-96 at the TD Garden.

The Knicks have secured a record of .500 or better in the 2016 NBA preseason. That may not matter much come the regular season, but for all of the commotion, New York has still managed to play quality basketball.

If you’re one to believe in the value of momentum, then the Knicks have avoided a negative form of it—reason enough to be excited.

On Wednesday, New York went on the road to defeat the rival Celtics. They did so without Anthony, who missed the game against Boston for the purpose of taking time to rest.

The question is: which players made it possible for the Knicks to overcome the Celtics and achieve preseason win No. 3?
