Ron Baker

It’s half past time that Ron Baker gets the hype he deserves. He’s done an outstanding job of learning the New York Knicks’ offense, providing energy on defense, and maintaining his intensity throughout practice.

Baker continued what’s been a productive preseason by flashing his ability to run point for the Knicks in Jeff Hornacek’s offense.

Baker played a preseason-high 21 minutes, recording 12 points, five assists, two rebounds, and two 3-point field goals made. He shot 5-of-6 from the field, 2-of-6 from beyond the arc, and had a +/- of +13.

It was yet another example of why Baker was signed mere minutes after the conclusion of the 2016 NBA Draft: he has legitimate value to the Knicks.

Baker plays with a purpose on both ends of the floor, which is something that can’t be said for every NBA player. The fact that he’s a self-motivated player is reason to welcome him in the locker room and his versatility is reason to covet him on the court.

Baker can run point, play the 2, and defend both guard positions. He deserves a main roster spot.
